A study carried out by scientist in the USA proves that fasting helps to increase the level of brain-derived neurotrophic factor, which contributes to the increase of brain cells production. This will in turn improves the brain function and gives you positive effects in your mental wellbeing and spiritual focus.
By not eating or drinking throughout the day your body will be offered the chance to detoxify your digestive system throughout the month. Not only will it produce energy from the restored fat but will also burn away any harmful toxins that might be present in fat deposits. This will cleanse your body and is a perfect start to a healthy lifestyle.
Fasting increases your metabolism efficiency due to the increase in adiponectin hormone, which is produced by the mix of fasting in daytime and eating late at night. Hence, allowing your body to absorb more nutrients.
Another physiological effect from fasting is that it reduces cholesterol in our blood.  A study by a cardiologist team in UAE on people who participated in fasting during Ramadhan, found that fasting causes a positive effect on lipid profile as its outcome. Lower cholesterol level in the blood increases cardiovascular health and highly reduces the risk of suffering from illnesses due to high cholesterol level such as heart attack and stroke.

Fasting does not just affect your brain in a positive way, it also reduces the amount of cortisol hormones which is the stress hormones. Hence, that is why you’re feeling less stressed out when fasting(like Mohd Ashek).

Put aside your worry in gaining more weight because Ramadhan is a good month for you to start a healthy eating habit. The less-than-usual food intake during the Holy month will shrink your tummy gradually and cause you to easily feel full even when consuming less food.

As long as you are moderate for Iftar, you are less likely to overindulge with your food.
From another aspect, refraining yourself from smoking and consuming sugary foods will gradually cause your body to adjust to their absence. The more consistent you are, the easier it will be in ditching these bad habits. It’s so significant that the UK’s National Health Service recommends that the fasting month is the ideal time to kick the butt.
As mentioned previously, fasting plays a big part in our health. It reduces your stress level, lower cholesterol level in your blood, helps in cleansing your body, increases your metabolism efficiency and with lesser calorie intake, these will all contribute to longevity.
